Sunday we visited the Seattle Art Museum's new downtown Olympic Sculpture Park on the waterfront. Will can't stop talking about how Serra uses materials and scale to alter perception and to engage the body, and how he encourages a conciousness of our relation to space. Max likes things that are big and orange.

interesting contrast between 2 recent superbowl victory celebrations

yesterday we all got back from a 5 day trip to Whistler, BC, Canada. Dad snowboarded and celebrated his birthday; Mom shed the snowboard and skied for the first time in years; Will watched Toy Story early and often, got pulled up and down hills on his sled, learned to throw snowballs at Mom, swam outside in the heated pool, and absolutely, positively refused to get his feet anywhere near a ski boot (even though he showed great interest in watching others and talked at length about riding chair lifts); Max caught up on some reading, continued his drive to walk by age 8 months, rode in a gondola with his brother, and rode around town on his parents backs.

as Dad was putting on Will's snow boots, Will said: "mama said that it is easier if I stand up to put my boots on." Dad, recognizing that the downward force created by Will's body weight would assist the effort replied: "mama is smart, isn't she?" to which Will replied: "yes, she is, but you just make mistakes." Dad, wounded, continued to assist in getting Will dressed only to realize a few seconds later that snow pants dont fit well over boots, a sequencing error that Will instantly recognized as another "mistake".

Will saw a sculpture of a clown on a unicycle.
Dad told him that riding a cycle that only has 1 wheel is a difficult thing to do.
he asked if dad could ride one and i said: "no, i can't."
he asked if mom could ride one and i said: "no, she can't."
he asked if grandad could ride one and i said: "no, he can't."
Will said: "i think he can."

Today Will asked, "What are me and Max going to be when we grow up?" And mom said, "I don't know, that's up to you." And Will said, "Maybe we'll just be Wills and Maxies."

Max has started to pull himself up to a standing position on almost anything he possibly can. Also, he ate little Gerber stars tonight for the first time. It is his first attempt to put little finger foods in his mouth. He did amazingly well and after the first 5 landed on the floor, he was determined to get the rest in his mouth. He loves them.
